During a mobile technology conference, Verizon Wireless chief technology officer Tony Melone revealed some tidbits about the company's plans for its 4G LTE network and voice over LTE services (VoLTE). The carrier will have phones with the VoLTE tech in them by 2012, and by 2013 there could be phones without any 3G radios at all. Verizon doesn't plan to push people off the 3G networks, but did say that the company plans to expand its 4G network further than its 3G network currently covers. This push would go deeper into rural territories that do not have 3G coverage now.
